NEW YORK—Saying the majority of the nation’s residents have either never heard of the sport or are unfamiliar with its history, a study released Monday by the New York University School of Medicine found that the majority of Americans do not know where to look for sports. “We found that despite the fact that the majority of Americans enjoy the sport, they are not likely to be able to identify the sport they are most interested in,” said lead researcher Dr. David Parry, adding that despite the widespread belief that the sport’s major players are professional athletes, a significant portion of the population is not even aware of the sport’s most prominent players and are instead frustrated by the fact that the sport exists. “We also found that despite the fact that the sport is an easily accessible and popular sport, many of the nation’s people have no idea where to go to watch individual sporting events.” The study went on to conclude that despite the fact that most sports are televised in countries across the globe, the majority of Americans do not know which countries to go to watch them.
