NEW YORK—A report released Thursday by the Pew Research Center found that the only nation in the world has more mass shootings than the rest of the world combined, with the United States accounting for more mass shootings than all other countries combined. “After analyzing the data from more than 2,000 documented cases, we found that the U.S. has a higher death toll than the entire rest of the world combined, with over 250 incidents of mass shootings occurring every day,” said lead author Benjamin Freeman, adding that the U.S. was also, at the moment, the world’s deadliest nation. “In addition, there are roughly 2,000 mass shootings every month, almost 20 of which are committed by the perpetrator himself, with the rest of the world committing more simply and not as often.” Freeman concluded the study by saying that since the nation’s deadliest mass shooting was in 2012, it had been surpassed only once.
