Serena Williams Throws First Ball In NBA Slam-Dunk Contest

NEW YORK—Serena Williams, the first woman to successfully complete an NBA slam-dunk contest, threw her first-ever professional basketball ball in a 4:23.26-second contest on Friday. "It was a long, difficult day of training, but I knew I was ready to dive into the NBA’s greatest basketball slam-dunk contest," said Williams, adding that the ball was thrown from behind for the first time in the contest's 56-year history. "It was a hell of a workout. I was able to do everything I needed to do, including dunk, lay-up, and a 16-foot jumper, which I did in under six seconds. It was a monumental moment in my career." Williams went on to say that she was just as impressed with the performance she received from her teammates as she was with her.
