WASHINGTON—In the wake of his surprise victory in the New Hampshire primary, Republican nominee Donald Trump held a press conference Thursday to repeatedly assure voters that he would never be less popular than the people who voted for him. “I will be the most beloved figure in America, and the people who voted for me are the most important voters in this country,” said Trump, who repeatedly told supporters that, despite not receiving the preferred vote he had hoped for, he is the one candidate who represents the values that they hold most deeply and holds himself to the highest possible standard. “I will always be the voice of the people, and the people who voted for me are the people who will be the voice of the people.” At press time, the Republican nominee had tweeted that, despite his relatively low approval ratings, he is still a very popular man in this country.
