Republicans Demand President Release Data On How Many Senators They Can Get In 2018

WASHINGTON—Following months of failed negotiations between the White House and a coalition of senators demanding more information on how many members of the Senate they can get, Republicans demanded President Trump Monday release a list of how many senators they can get in the 2018 midterm elections. “As soon as President Trump begins to show any signs of compromise regarding the number of U.S. senators, we’re going to demand he release that information right away,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), adding that a full year’s worth of data on how many senators they can control would be helpful if the Democrats were able to block any Republican-backed legislation that would increase the number of senators. “The more information we get about who these senators are, the less likely they are to vote in the midterm elections. We can’t afford to wait until 2020 to know if we can hold the Senate.” McConnell added that the Republican coalition has already proven they can get even more information on how many senators they can control if they have the votes to block any Republican-backed legislation that would limit the number of senators.
