KENOSHA, WI—When asked about his race by several strangers, local man Tim Gartner, who is known for his racist views, has refused to acknowledge it to others. "Well, I'm black," said Gartner, adding that he knew only people as black as his mother, a white woman. "I was surprised, because I thought I was a pretty normal guy." Gartner's mother, a white woman, has never acknowledged her son's attitude.
