Some Players May Have To Be Patient

INDIANAPOLIS—Though the NFL has expressed interest in signing the likes of Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel and former Notre Dame star Terrell Owens as free agents, some teams may have to be patient with them. "The draft is the make-or-break off-season for college football, so it's unlikely that these teams will be able to secure their desired free agents in time for training camp," said NFL deputy commissioner Roger Goodell. "While the NFL is looking for elite NFL athletes for its draft, some teams are waiting until they have committed to a college or a major American university before signing them. Either way, they're going to need to wait a long time." The NFL has not ruled out signing Owens, the former Heisman Trophy winner, but would not confirm whether he would be joining the NFL.
