Stunning New Study Finds Only 7% Of U.S. Citizens Have Any Faith In Government

WASHINGTON—Saying it was the most substantial and striking finding of its kind to date, the nation’s report-collecting public-health researchers at the National Center for Health Statistics released an alarming new study Friday revealing that only 7 percent of Americans have any faith in government. “After analyzing a wide variety of data sets, we discovered that the vast majority of Americans have no confidence in the federal government or the federal government’s ability to perform its job,” said lead researcher Dr. John S. Shaffer, adding that, on a scale of 0–10, there is no doubt that only 7 percent of the population has any confidence in the federal government’s ability to accomplish anything or that the government will do anything at all. “Of course, this statistic isn’t a perfect measurement of faith in a public institution, as it does not take into account the importance of faith in the elected officials who are elected, and hence may not be representative of all citizens. However, we can say with confidence that the vast majority of citizens do not trust the federal government or are at least seriously considering the possibility of never trusting the government again.” The study came on the heels of a similar finding from the CDC, which found that the vast majority of Americans had no confidence in the American press and thought the press was unfair.
